UPDATE: There is now a BigBog version of the applet at the link below. It makes the game actually playable without going through a bunch of hoops :-)

---

I've been working on a Java Applet customized to play Riskybus.

Here is a link to a prototype version of the applet:

You need a web browser that can run a recent version of Java.

I haven't really tested it much, so I'm sure it has lots of bugs. The interface could probably use some tweaks too. If you have a chance please check it out and give me feedback on what to fix or change :) I am hoping to get the kinks worked out and use this as a base for more GUI-based games that don't work so well in a straight text-based IRC client.

Nice

Works great for BigBog! Makes it much easier to play. Only complaint is that the screen is too large. I have to scroll down to see the chat.

Thanks, the scroll issue will be easy to fix :)

Here are my initial

Here are my initial impressions. I'll add more after I've used it more...

Pretty cool. I like the fact that the current question, value and category are displayed at all times, and the current score list is neat too.

The input is a little clunky with the two input boxes. On one hand the answer box saves the user from typing rob each time, but switching back to the chat input is awkward, so I started just typing my answer in the chat box with rob. However, the Give Up button rules!

Also, when an answer is typed in the answer input, it does not display on the screen. Not sure if that is intentional or not, but for a game like risky I would like to see those answers displayed.

When I type in the chat input, my name is not shown in front of my comment. Again I'm not sure if that is intentional, but it makes the chat line up better and is easier to read.

I think the buttons for wager and steal are a great addition, especially for newbies. A "help" button that displays the rules might be nice for newbies too.

This interface opens up a whole new world of possibilities for new games. Good work, Mach!

Thanks for the feedback! The missing info in the chat log when you are sending something is not intentional :)

I've been thinking about the two input boxes. Maybe I can combine them into one with a toggle button or something. I'll give it a try and see how it plays.

input boxes

Hmm, the toggle with one input box didn't work so well. So I've left it as is for now until a better idea comes along...
